Veterans

NewSchool of Architecture and Design is approved to train veterans and other eligible persons by the California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education (CSAAVE) Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) under U.S. Code Title 38. NSAD follows Veterans Administration (VA) regulations and related military regulations in administering student financial and academic affairs for veteran and military students. Eligible veterans and dependents, as defined by the VA, can be accepted for education. Eligible veterans and dependents may file an application either with NSAD or the VA.

YELLOW RIBBON PROGRAM

NewSchool of Architecture and Design is pleased to participate in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. This program is designed to help students finance, through scholarship assistance, up to 100 percent of their out-of-pocket tuition and fees associated with education programs that may exceed the Post 9/11 GI Bill tuition benefit, which will only pay up to the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition. The amount of the Yellow Ribbon award is determined by first applying the VA benefits towards the tuition and fees. If there are tuition and fee charges above that amount, the difference—up to $6,000 per academic year—will be covered between NewSchool’s Yellow Ribbon Grant funds and a matching grant from Veterans Affairs up to the amounts and number of participants to which NewSchool commits on an annual basis.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is currently accepting applications for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. To qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Enhancement, you must first apply to the VA. The VA will then determine your eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill and issue you a Certificate of Eligibility. After you are issued your Certificate of Eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs indicating that you qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at NewSchool.

Veterans are subject to the same rules and regulations that govern other students. Absences and tardiness will be reported to the VA in accordance with current VA directives.

NSAD maintains a written record of previous education and training of the veteran or eligible person, grants appropriate credit for equivalent coursework, shortens the training period proportionately, and provides notifications to the student and the Department of Veterans Affairs. A veteran or eligible person who, at the end of two consecutive quarters on probation, has failed to earn a grade point average of 2.0 will have his/her VA educational benefits terminated.

Current VA directives prohibit the payment of benefits for any period of training designated as “make-up time.”
