second Exploratory Design Workshop
segundo Taller de Exploración Arquitectónica

Experience an intensive and total immersion into the Architectural Landscape and Legacy of Southern California. Students will directly examine the work of world-renowned architects including early San Diego modernist Irving Gill, the experimental work of Rudolph Schindler, Richard Neutra and the Case Study Houses 18 & 23. Throughout the 4-weeks of the workshop we will visit some of the most recent works and offices of avant-garde firms among them, Eric O. Moss, Gehry Technologies, Morphosis and these visits will be complimented by an ‘intimate’ lecture series that includes progressive cultural thinkers and practitioners such as Teddy Cruz, Ted Smith, Marcos Ramirez ‘Erre,’ Kiong Park among many others.

SoCAL-E>< is directed by Hector M. Perez Tapia in both Spanish and English and the architectural production of the studio will explore a unique design process that oscillates between abstraction and representation. Through crafted images, objects and models the students will reveal the unique conditions of place as they search for opportunities for activation.

Particípe en una Inmerción total e intensa en el Paisaje y Legado Arquitectónico del Sur de California. Los Estudiantes de este Taller de Diseño, examinarån directamente el trabajo de arquitectos de fama mundial incluyendo el temprano modernista de San Diego, Irving Gill, el trabajo experimental de Rudolph Schindler, Richard Neutra y casas #18 y 23 del ‘Case Study Program’. A lo largo de las 4 semanas del taller, visitaremos obras recientes y despachos vanguardistas como el de Eric O. Moss, Gehry Technologies, Morphosis y estas visitas seran complementadas por una serie de ‘intimas’ conferencias que incluyen a practicantes y pensadores culturales progresivos como Teddy Cruz, Ted Smith, Marcos Ramirez ‘Erre.’ Kiong Park entre muchos otros mas.

El Taller SoCAL-E>< serå dirgido en Ingles y Español por Héctor M. Pérez Tapia y la producción arquitectónica del estudio explorarå un processo de diseño que oscila entre la representación y la abstracción. Por medio de imagines, objetos y construcciones, los estudiantes revelarån las condiciones especiales de un lugar mientras buscan opourtunidades para su activación.
