Executive Master's Program

NewSchool of Architecture and Design’s Executive Master of Architecture program gives licensed mid-career architects who have worked at least five years in the field the opportunity to advance their professional knowledge and careers.

You’ll explore the latest developments in theory, design, and practice with fellow practitioners. Convenient weekend classes, with practical applications that can be fulfilled at your current place of employment, will help you balance continued education with full-time practice.

The Executive Master’s Program is recognized by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).
To learn this program’s next start date or how to apply, contact the Office of Admissions at 619-684-8888 or read the Executive Master’s Program brochure.

In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture, recognizes three types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture, the Master of Architecture, and the Doctor of Architecture. A program may be granted a 6-year, 3-year, or 2-year term of accreditation, depending on the extent of its conformance with established educational standards.

Doctor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degree programs may consist of a pre-professional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree that, when earned sequentially, constitute an accredited professional education. However, the preprofessional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree.

NewSchool of Architecture and Design offers the following NAAB-accredited degree programs:

  • Bachelor of Architecture (235 quarter undergraduate credits)
  • Master of Architecture (preprofessional degree + 90 quarter graduate credits)
  • Master of Architecture (non-preprofessional degree + 135 quarter credits)
  • Master of Architecture (license +preprofessional degree + 45 quarter credits)

Next accreditation visit for all programs: 2016.
