Lisa Sachs, a member of the NSAD Construction Management Advisory Board, has been elected to the AIA College of Fellows.

San Diego—May 16, 2012—Lisa Sachs, who serves as a member of NewSchool of Architecture and Design’s Construction Management Advisory Board, has been elected to the prestigious American Institute of Architects (AIA) College of Fellows for 2012.

Sachs is a managing principal with Cumming Corporation, a leading provider of professional construction project services. She was commended in her nomination for giving back to the architecture and construction community by serving as an educator, guest lecturer and mentor. Trained as an architect, Sachs was noted for her commitment to design excellence and her ability to meet the needs of both architects and constructors. Sachs is the author of What is Your Construction Management IQ? In her role on NSAD’s Construction Management program advisory board, she shares her expertise by providing recommendations for the Master of Construction Management program, which is offered entirely online, and the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program.

“The future of our built environment depends on well-trained professionals with a complete understanding of a project’s evolution, from design and conceptual cost estimating to contract law and dozens of specialties in between,” said George Welch, NSAD Construction Management program coordinator, who provided a letter of recommendation for Sachs’ nomination. “Lisa Sachs’ involvement invigorates our program and helps bring young design- educated students into construction management—a critical opportunity for the future of both architecture and construction.”

According to the AIA, less than 4 percent of all AIA members have been designated as Fellows.
Sachs is among 105 AIA members elevated to the College of Fellows for 2012, along with NSAD Dean Emeritus Gilbert D. Cooke, who served as NSAD dean from 2001–2009. Both Sachs and Cooke are invited to participate in a formal ceremony for recently named Fellows, which will be held in Washington, D.C., during the AIA 2012 National Convention May 17–19.
