San Diego—May 8, 2012—The Construction Management Student Association (CMSA) at NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD) held a Community Service Day April 17 to help build a home for a family in El Cajon, Calif. Ten NSAD construction management students participated in the volunteer event, which was arranged through Habitat for Humanity.
This was the first home-building project organized by the student group. During the all-day event, the construction management students dug postholes, put up fencing, mixed cement, built a wall, helped install a new kitchen and laid linoleum in the bathroom. Other activities organized by the school’s CMSA included guest speaker presentations, site visits and student competitions. CMSA is a student chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA).
The student organization’s mission of encouraging students to be socially responsible leaders aligns with NSAD’s goal of preparing students in the construction management field to be engaged with their communities. NSAD’s construction management programs include a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and a fully online Master of Construction Management program.
