NSAD Partners with Rebuilding Together San Diego to Renovate Neighborhood Sites

The second annual NSAD Day of Service brought together students, faculty and staff who contributed to landscaping, painting and cleaning beautification projects

Several hundred NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD) students, faculty and staff participated in the second annual NSAD Day of Service on May 3. Volunteers helped refurbish homes and yards at five different sites in the Grant Hill section of San Diego through a collaboration with Rebuilding Together San Diego.

“The remarkable improvements that were evident by the end of the day at each of the five sites were a tangible outcome of our campus community’s teamwork, service, persistence, stamina and beautification efforts,” said NSAD President Steve Altman. “The residents were astounded by the appearance of their homes and their reactions were further confirmations of what it means to give back to our communities.”

Day of Service is one of NSAD’s initiatives to ensure its continued commitment to giving back to the community. For this year’s Day of Service, NSAD partnered with Rebuilding Together San Diego, which renovates and preserves affordable housing for low-income homeowners. San Diego City Councilmember David Alvarez joined the NSAD volunteers at the neighborhood that morning to welcome them and thank them for their commitment to the community.
