Next-Gen Design: What the Future of Design Holds for a New Generation of Designers

NewSchool of Architecture and Design lecture on product and industrial design the latest offering in San Diego school’s global design education initiatives

What: Lecture on “Next-Gen Design: What the Future of Design Holds for a New Generation of Designers.”  Guest speakers Marco Susani and Elena Pacenti, who are both affiliated with the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, provide a perspective on what the future of design holds for a new generation of global designers, with an emphasis on product and industrial design.

When: Friday, Jan. 11. 1 p.m.
Where: NewSchool of Architecture and Design auditorium. 1249 F Street. San Diego, CA.
How: Event is free and open to the NSAD community. Members of the public are also welcome to attend, though they are requested to RSVP to NSAD Public Relations Manager Anna Cearley at acearley@newschoolarch.edu or 619-684-6791 to ensure sufficient seating is available.

Speaker Bios

Marco Susani is an award-winning design consultant based in Chicago.  He started his career with Ettore Sottsass, considered an icon of 20th Century Design, established DARC (Domus Academy Research Center) as a center for pioneering design innovation and strategy, and worked as an executive in Motorola's Global Consumer Experience Design for a decade.He has provided design expertise to companies such as Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Apple, and he is an alumnus of Domus Academy in Milan, Italy.

Elena Pacenti heads the Design School at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy. She directed the DARC (Domus Academy Research Center) since 2003 and established the Master in Service and Experience Design at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy in 2011. With degrees in architecture and industrial design, Pacenti has conducted research in service design theory which aims to identify ways to enhance interactions within an organization or between an organization and its clients or customers.

Background: This lecture is offered as part of NSAD’s global design education initiatives, which are being developed in collaboration with Domus Academy in Milan, Italy and Media Design School in Auckland, New Zealand.  Please visit the NSAD website to learn more about global design related programs that are being developed at NSAD such as the newly-formed Domus Academy School of Design at NSAD, a recently-completed interior design class taught by Domus Academy visiting professor Paolo Giachi and a new Bachelor of Interior Design program that is being offered in 2013-2014.
