Benjamin White

As the chairman of NSAD’s Alumni Advisory Board, Ben White ‘01, is working to raise the profile of the school, both locally and across the country. His experience and his education have positioned him to be an effective and impressive representative of NSAD.

Currently an associate at Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects, White is a California Licensed Architect and a member of the American Institute of Architects. He is accredited by the United States Green Building Council  as a LEED Accredited Professional and has worked on a number of LEED-certified projects, achieving high levels of environmental performance.

For more than 12 years, White has worked on projects with a wide range of budgets and goals. He is also an adjunct professor of environmental science at the graduate level at NewSchool of Architecture and Design.

White grew up in Englewood, Colo., a suburb of Denver, where he attended Colorado State University for two years, majoring in construction management. Afterward, he worked with a construction crew for two years while he engaged in serious soul-searching about how he wanted to participate in the built environment.

Although he was accepted by architecture programs at numerous universities across the country, White chose NSAD because of its strong connection to the community of working architects in San Diego. “I knew that my education at NSAD was going to be exceptional because of its rigorous academic pursuits along with the practical knowledge I would learn from working in the field,” says White.

Gaining experience while working through school has allowed White to have a variety of professional experiences following his graduation. As one of the leading architects in San Diego, for example, he is currently managing the design and construction of two new buildings totaling 200,000 square feet for San Diego’s City College.

White also has served the community by working with San Diego high school students through the ACE Mentor Program.
