NewSchool of Architecture and Design's Master of Architecture I program gives students with a bachelor's degree in architecture or in a related field the opportunity to earn a professional degree in architecture.
The Master of Architecture can serve as a student's first professional degree, and is recognized by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) as part of the requirements for eventual architectural licensure.. The program offers 2 entry points, one for students with a baccalaureate degree in any field, and the other for students who have already obtained a pre-professional architecture or architectural studies undergraduate degree.
Students holding a baccalaureate degree in unrelated fields will typically require three years of full-time study, or a minimum of 135 required quarter credits: 120 professional requirements and 15 professional electives. Students with a B.A. or B.S. in architecture, or a related degree, who are looking to enrich their knowledge and credentials, will be able to complete the program with two years of full-time study, or a minimum of 90 required credits: 76 professional requirements, and 14 professional electives.

Note on Licensure and Accreditation
In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture, recognizes three types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture, the Master of Architecture, and the Doctor of Architecture. A program may be granted a 6-year, 3-year, or 2-year term of accreditation, depending on the extent of its conformance with established educational standards.
Doctor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degree programs may consist of a pre-professional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree that, when earned sequentially, constitute an accredited professional education. However, the preprofessional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree.
NewSchool of Architecture and Design offers the following NAAB-accredited degree programs:
