Interior Design and the Domus Academy Experience
Design careers are transcending location, and inspiration can come from anywhere around the globe. NewSchool’s Bachelor of Interior Design program was designed to give its graduates an international education, one component of which is our partnership with our sister institution, Domus Academy. Located in one of the leading capitals of design—Milan, Italy—Domus Academy is an internationally recognized institution for design education and, in particular, its close collaborations with today’s thought leaders and design companies.
With the Domus Academy study abroad experience, you can benefit from many of the opportunities that are unique to our Bachelor of Interior Design program, including:
- Living and studying in the city of Milan, which is the home to international design studios, design magazines, research labs, trade fairs, and top design companies.
- Taking courses at an international school where students and faculty come from nearly 50 other countries, allowing you to develop a global perspective that will be critical to your career.
- Participating in Domus Academy’s extensive international network and meeting and working with teachers and project leaders who are internationally renowned professionals in their field.
This experience happens during the third year of study in the program. with both housing and travel expenses covered in the program tuition fees*. In addition, NewSchool has created other opportunities for students to have an international experience throughout the course of the program by participating in internships and workshops. You’ll find that we truly believe in the strength of and need for producing interior design professionals who already have experience working on a global level.
* Housing will be arranged by NewSchool and Domus Academy and is based on a minimum of a double occupancy per single room housing unit. Other expenses, such as food, supplies, and transportation while in Milan, are not included and will be the responsibility of the student. Included airfare is for a coach/economy rountrip multiple-segment flight from San Diego to Milan and must be booked at least 30 days in advance. If cancelled by the student within 10 days of the scheduled departure date, student will be responsible for 100% of the actual cost of the airfare.
